Glennwood Mountain Homes, Inc. is a family-operated business established in 2013, specializing in high-end residential new construction and remodels in the Reno and North Lake Tahoe areas.  Our primary goal is to deliver an exceptional quality product that involves client engagement, while maintaining transparency and the highest integrity throughout the entire project.

Chris Abel, Owner and President of the company, has over 30 years of residential construction experience and holds contractor licenses in both Nevada and California. He is involved with every client, from the time of conception, throughout the build, as well as post construction to ensure extreme satisfaction. He is committed to delivering high-quality custom homes and establishing lasting relationships with clients that continue long after the homes are completed.

We collaborate with our client’s architects and designers to ensure each client’s unique vision is met. We thoughtfully select subcontractors and vendors that provide high-quality craftsmanship that every home deserves. All of this is completed while taking cost into consideration every step of the process.

Our Team

CHRIS ABEL, President

Chris has spent the last 30 years building custom homes in Northern Michigan, North Tahoe, and Northern Nevada. From his humble beginnings as a carpenter to the Owner of Glennwood Mountain Homes, Inc., Chris has always committed himself to quality and customer satisfaction. 

After graduating Michigan State University with a B.S. in Construction Management, Chris started his career as a laborer for a small Northern Michigan custom home builder. He quickly advanced to carpenter and subsequently lead carpenter. After seven years of honing his construction skills and knowledge in the field, Chris decided to put his Construction Management degree to use and accepted a position as a Project Manager.

During his time as a Project Manager he worked for firms that specialized in the Design/Build approach. This experience along with his solid technical experience brought together all phases of the construction process from site procurement, architecture, engineering, interior design, and landscaping. 

In 2013 Chris had an opportunity to start a company in the Reno/Tahoe Region.  He moved his wife and three children to the area and established Glennwood Mountain Homes, Inc.  His vast knowledge and experience allowed him to quickly integrate into the area and successfully build many great relationships with clients, architects, engineers, subcontractors, and suppliers. 

Chris’s projects have been published in renowned magazines such as Traverse the Magazine and Tahoe Quarterly. He has also earned builders awards in the North Tahoe region for his Mountain Contemporary and Remodel projects.

When not working on his first passion of home building, Chris enjoys many other passions which include spending time with his family, boating, fishing, mountain biking, skiing, and back country snowmobiling.

VICKIE ABEL, Controller

Vickie’s primary role at Glennwood Mountain Homes is financial management, contracting, business development, and human resource management. Vickie has over 10 years of leadership experience including employee relations, business operations, regulatory compliance, budget development and oversight, financial reporting, and quality improvement. She enjoys leading with conviction, earning trust and loyalty from her peers and customers she works with, and developing a vision for the organization that creates effective plans for the future of the company.

Vickie initially joined Glennwood Mountain Homes in 2013 assisting Chris with establishing the company. She earned her bachelor’s degree in Health Care Administration, and most recently her master’s degree in Nursing in 2018. While the vast majority of her experience has been in the health care setting, she is able to apply her education and experience to construction management driving results and producing best practice outcomes.

Outside of work, Vickie enjoys spending time with her husband, Chris Abel, and three kids. Vickie also enjoys camping, gardening, fishing, and any opportunity to visit with friends and her extended family.
